![]() I’m sure when he sees a fight on the television he reminisces back to 11 th of February 1990 and against the whole world’s expectations he beat the most feared boxer of all time. Although James ‘Buster’ Douglas achieved many things outside of the ring, there is no denying he will be forever associated with that night in Tokyo. Readers may argue that this is more a forgotten fight as opposed to fighter, but the truth of matter is it was Buster’s finest achievement. Do not feel sorry for Douglas though, because as Mike Tyson continued to be haunted by his demons eventually losing all his money, he became a highly successful business man last it was estimated he is worth a staggering $3 million! ![]() Strangely Buster didn’t fight for another six years, but his comeback was short lived. He is an actor, known for Street Justice (1991), The Wager (2020) and From Gettysburg to Baghdad (2018). Disappointedly the Ohio native meekly lost the titles in his first defence to Evander Holyfield (and we all remember what happened between him and Tyson!). Actor Buster Douglas was born on Apin Columbus, Ohio, USA. Most opponents of Tyson looked terrified entering the ring. Looking back on it now it seemed like Buster was the first man who actually believed he could defeat Tyson, this may be because of all his other personal problems he felt that Tyson was just another obstacle. The fight is widely regarded as one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. The then-undefeated, undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson lost by knockout to the 42:1 underdog Douglas. None of this should take away from Douglas. Did Tyson really beat Buster Douglas Buster Douglas, billed as Tyson is Back, was a professional boxing match that occurred at the Tokyo Dome on February 11, 1990. Robin Givens, his snake of a wife, had left him just previous to the fight which led to Mike further imploding on alcohol and other substances. His wife and mother in law squeezed as much money and fame as possible from ‘Iron Mike’, the boxing gangster Don King was his manager and he was addicted to sex, drink and drugs. In hindsight we now know that Tyson’s world was also crumbling at the seams. Time after time he matched and bettered Tyson in the close exchanges, landing his deadly right uppercut with ease Tyson’s legendry head movement seemed to desert him, instead of his Cus D’Amato inspired bobbing and weaving the movement coming from his head was created by the bombs Douglas was landing. ![]() The truth of the matter is that Buster battered Tyson for ten rounds, even if he was knocked down and nearly out in the eighth. When people recall or hear about the night in question it is always mistakenly remembered as a lucky KO, in that Douglas just found that one combination and had been dominated up until that point, which is simply untrue. Overnight ‘Buster’ Douglas, a 42-1 shot with some bookies, became a household name even if just for a moment as he knocked out the seemingly invincible Mike Tyson to become undisputed World Heavyweight Champion. This was to be the icing on the cake to seal one of the greatest upsets in not just boxing but in any sport possibly ever. A vicious right upper cut, sweeping left hook followed by a clean cut straight right.
